Default Point me where to go with this question

I am not all that new a user. I have Word 2000 at home and 97 at work.
What I am trying to do is this.I would like a way to get to the template
dialog or ideally open an instance of a specific template
programmatically (ie from an html page on my local machine). any help
would be appreciated.

The easiest way to open a document based on a specific template is to put a
shortcut to the template on your desktop (since the default behavior for
..dot files is New, you get a new document instead of opening the template).
Creating a document from a template with a Web page link is virtually
impossible, I think.

Don't underestimate the power of the source[0], young Barnwalker. ;-)

[0] The source code of scripting languages like VbScript. I cannot
imagine that this could not be done with some script, however byzantine
it may be.

If it has an "X" in the name, it must be Linux?
Please don't thank me in advance. Thank me afterwards if it works or
hit me in the face if it doesn't. ;-)

Actually a plain old hyperlink is all that was needed since (as you
pointed out) the default behavior is "new"
