Default Is it possible to creat a form and only lock part of the page.

If you have a Section Break after the form part of the page, and only apply
protection to the section containing the form, the text after the section
break will not be protected. There are however some restrictions on the
capabilities of Word with respect to that text - Spelling Checking, access
to Headers and Footers etc.

Hope this helps.

You tab or click to it, with the document protected but the section
unprotected.

After entering the section break and protecting the upper portion of my form,
I cannot tab or click on the bottom section to type. Any other suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Did you select protection for Section 1 only, leaving Section 2 unprotected?

I selected the upper section then hit the protection (lock on tool bar). Can
you explain briefly how to only protect Section 1 if this is not the correct
way.
Thanks

Don't use the lock icon for this. Instead, use the Tools Protect Document
dialog or the Protect Document task pane, depending on your version of Word.

For Word 2002 or 2003:
When you select "Filling in forms" in the dropdown on the task pane, the
Sections link appears below it. Click that, and uncheck the section(s) that
shouldn't be protected.

For earlier versions:
When you click the Forms option in the dialog, the Sections button becomes
enabled. Click that, and uncheck the section(s) that shouldn't be protected.

After you've made that selection, then you can use the lock icon and Word
will remember which sections to protect.
