Hi Everyone,
Sorry, I have a strange Mac Email problem (please no LOL). I have a few
users who are using Mac 10.4.x and MS Word VX with all current updates. One
of the users is experiencing problems receiving Word attachments via
Thunderbird. First the attachment will not automatically open in Word when
launched (asks to choose the application) and 2nd, once it is opened in Word
the document is corrupt. The problem is not 100% - some attachments are O.K.
while other Word attachments seem to be experiencing this problem. I have
reinstalled both Word and Thunderbird but with no success.

Has anyone experienced this problem?

It only happens with some documents--are they from a certain sender,
possibly a set of senders?

Do the problematic files show the .doc extension?

Is Thunderbird downloading the entire document? Many email programs have
a "don't download if over X size" setting that could account for
perceived corruption on the receiving end.

Good point about going to the Mac forum - sorry, I was just too impatient.

In answer to your suggestions...
- Not all Word attachments are causing problems.
- They are coming from multiple users (both Mac and PC)
- The size of most of the files is pretty small (2 pages).

The documents do contain math symbols (we are in a medical research area)
and at first I thought that these might be causing the problem (like a bad
font issue).

Today I removed and reinstalled Thunderbird as I fairly sure that the
problem is there.

I have no other ideas, but if a fresh Thunderbird didn't fix the problem
and it does seem to be in Word, best to follow-up on the MacWord group.
