[Confused]

The toolbar under the ruler disappeared from all my past and new Word
documents. Instructions I've found so far tell me to go to Tools or
Favorites - which I can't do because they're on the missing toolbar.

I have the toolbar in Excel and Access but not in Word.

Any ideas?

Are you in Word 2007? If so that could be the Quick Access Toolbar. If it's missing it may be that it was reset or that the file
Word.QAT (that holds the Quick Access Toolbar) has gone missing.

Do you see a short toolbar above or below the ribbon with only 4 icons on it? That would be the default one.
