Default I can see the pane (to the left) when in outline view? Where is

When using outline view, there is no pane showing up on the left of the
document. I am in word 2003. How do I make that visible?

Perhaps you're referring to the Document Map? You can turn this on from the
View menu or the button on the Standard toolbar.
