Default Index in Master Document

Hi There,
I have a master document which contains 20 subdocuments. Some text is
marked with the XE code for use in an index. But when I generate the index,
it doesn't come out alphabetical. Instead it comes out in the order they
appear in the subdocument. See below. This is Word 2000 on windows xp. Any
suggestions?

Thank you! Sue
