Default Automatically Update Style???

Good Afternoon all,

I hope i can find some help here with this. When i create a Document in
word 2003 i get to a point where i want to create bullets...when i do it adds
bullets to the whole document. I go to edit and undo auto update style and im
ok. the same thing happens when i left align and so on...i have to keep
undoing auto update style. Is there a way to Stop this auto update style.
Thanks in advance *crosses fingers*
