Default Word 2003 - Outline numbering

Hi, i am using outline numbering - I guess it doesn't really matter what
numbering system I am using because I don't think it has any great bearing on
my question. I have a document and have created some internal hyperlinks.

I am wanting to say, for example, "Subject should be a brief, meaningful
summary of your question" as referred to in Section 1.5

Is there a way I can get that 1.5 to change automatically if I should
re-number my paragraphs?

Many thanks. Trish :-)

Thanks Suzanne - I can see what you are saying and have put the reference in.
it was 1.12 Now I have inserted another paragraph at 1.12 and the
original section I was referring to is now 1.13. However, it has not changed
at my reference point. Your assistance is most appreciated. Thanks. Trish

Cross-references make use of REF fields, which don't update automatically.
To update them, either switch to Print Preview and back (you can use
Ctrl+F2), or select the whole document and press F9.

Yes, I realized after I sent my post that I should have mentioned that they
update only "semi-automatically." Stefan has given you the rest of the info
you need.
