Funny Symbols when copy/pasting bulleted lists
When I copy a bulleted list from another document (I have Microsoft 2003),
sometimes I receive funny symbols after trying to change the formatting to fit the rest of the document. For example, I pasted a bulleted list, selected "clear formatting" from the drop down list on the toolbar and instead of getting rid of all the bullets, it put a red rectangle with a low line through it in front of only one of the sentances. So I tried again, and this time just selected the bullet that I use in Word, and in front of that same sentance, a red circle with a line through it appeared. I can't erase this, and it happens to be fairly often. I end up having to erase the whole line and just type it in myself. Oh, and if I try to just hit "backspace" the line moves up a line (as normal text would), and the symbol attaches itself to this new line. Does anyone know how this happens, and how I can get rid of it? I've searched all the Microsoft formatting symbols and can never find either of them! |

If so, click on the button with that symbol on your toolbar. It's just a symbol indicating the end of the paragraph. Some of us can't work without seeing those symbols and a few other non-printing characters. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] "cathvictoria" wrote in message ... no, it looks like a red rectangle with a line through the bottom (about 2/3
down), and ther other one is a red circle with a line through the middle. And to the side of the document there is a black line that is the size of the sentance, but can't be highlighted. Although your description isn't making sense to me (which could jst be me),
I wonder if Track Changes is turned on. Try this from http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...983881033.aspx How do I get rid of my revisions? To get rid of tracked changes and comments, you need to accept or reject the changes and delete the comments. Here's how: On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Reviewing. On the Reviewing toolbar, click Show, and then make sure that a check mark appears next to each of the following items: Comments Ink Annotations (Word 2003 only) Insertions and Deletions Formatting Reviewers (Point to Reviewers and make sure that All Reviewers is selected.) If a check mark does not appear next to an item, click the item to select it. On the Reviewing toolbar, click Next to advance from one revision or comment to the next. On the Reviewing toolbar, click Accept Change or Reject Change/Delete Comment for each revision or comment. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all the revisions in the document have been accepted or rejected and all the comments have been deleted. Note If you know that you want to accept all the changes, click the arrow next to Accept Change, and then click Accept All Changes in Document. If you know that you want to reject all the changes, click the arrow next to Reject Change/Delete Comment, and then click Reject All Changes in Document. To remove all comments, you must delete them. Click the arrow next to Reject Change/Delete Comment, and then click Delete All Comments in Document. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] "cathvictoria" wrote in message ... no, it looks like a red rectangle with a line through the bottom (about 2/3 down), and ther other one is a red circle with a line through the middle. Thank you! I followed your steps and found that the reviewers-all reviewers
wasn't checked. I'm not sure how it works, but it actually got rid of the red marks right away. I will have do a little research to understand what I did, so that I can keep this from happening in the future. But, I'm so incredibly glad that it's gone right now! THank you so much! I've had this problem for ages! "JoAnn Paules [MVP]" wrote: Although your description isn't making sense to me (which could jst be me), I wonder if Track Changes is turned on. I have a few people who send me information for the non-profit group I
belong to. They have Track Changes turned on and I have to go in and turn things off. It's a royal pain because I'm only concerned with the end results, not who changed what. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] "cathvictoria" wrote in message ... Thank you! Funny Symbols when copy/pasting bulleted lists
I have had this problem, too, but my track changes are OFF. That's why it's
driving me crazy. The document I am working on has been through many people and on many computers, and I think it's likely messed up with a lot of hidden formatting. I am trying to get rid of what are obviously automatic bullets, but when I highlight them, the bullet button is not highlighted at all. And it is these times when I ended up seeing what LOOKS like tracked changes on a document where track changes is not turned on. Even if I just delete the bullet manually without clicking bullets on and then bullets off for those items that, when highlighted, do not show that bullet icon as "on," I get the red square described above with a tracked formatting balloon. Is there something else I can do to stop the red from happening?
