When using Word standard outline format, changing numbering in the body of
text changes previous and subsequent numbering - why?

I have the same problem. Is it Word XP bug?

For example:
1. This is a bolded paragraph. When this paragraph is joined with
1.1, the bolding is removed.

1.1. no bold, Level 2 numbering.

Numbering in Word is an especially fragile "beast." You can do it in 100
