I need help creating running chapter numbers in sequential files. FWIW, I am
using a master document and subdocuments if that helps. I know how to
continue page numbering from previous chapter but need to know how to do the
same for a chapter paragraph.

I don't know anything about master documents, since I don't use them. The
reason I don't use them is that they tend to corrupt documents; see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/general/Wh...ocsCorrupt.htm.

Generally, if you want to restart paragraph/outline numbering, you will have
to set the "Start at" option for each document. You should do this in the
Customize Outline Numbered List dialog box, which is described at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...Numbering.html.
