This is a weird question, only because the same file(s) seem to have
different permissions depending on where they are saved on the network. I will try and clarify. I have two different merge documents; the only difference being one is .DOC and the other is .DOCX. I also have 4 different versions of recipient lists: (DOC,DOCX, XLS, & XLSX) for comparison. The files all have the same permissions, and are copied in two locations: my C drive, and a network drive that I have modify permissiosn to. Now that you have the background, what I am trying to do is to edit information in the recipient list, while doing a mail merge. When I try editing the recipient lists on my local drive, I have no problems except for the .DOCX version and then I get a File Permission error. When I try editing recipient lists on teh network drive, I get errors on both the .DOC and DOCX files as it says the file is read only. I have verified that none of the files are read only, nor protected. I have even tried checking read-only, saving, and then unchecking. I can go into the recipient documents directly and edit that way .. just not through the actual Merge document. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks much!!! |

Let me clarify further. This problem does not occure when I try editing
recipients using Word 2003. The merge document is called FTG Receipt Ltr.doc (or docx) and the recipient doc is called FTG data.doc. When I modify recipients on my C drive using mail merge wizard, I get the following message "FTG Receipt Ltr.doc is a mail merge main document that is attached to a data source FTG Data.doc that has not been saved. Do you want to save FTG data.doc?" I choose OK, and it saves fine. When I edit recipients on my network drive I get the same message, however the mail merge document is not called "FTG Receipt ltr.doc but a combination of numbers and letters instead; i.e "5FAF7666.doc" Not sure if that helps or not. Much appreciated. "Nat" wrote: This is a weird question, only because the same file(s) seem to have different permissions depending on where they are saved on the network. I will try and clarify.
