Go to the Table Tools/Layout tab. In the Data chunk, click Formula and you'll
get the dialog box to create a formula.

2) Why would help show no specific solution when I search "calculate table"?

Well, we are still in beta, so not all the Help has been written, yet...
Doesn't mean they'll remember to do it, though :-) In Word Options/Resources
there's a "Contact Us" button.
