Problem with hyperlinks

using windows vista + office 2007.
when i activate (control+click) a hyperlink in a word 97-2003 document to a
photograph, it opens up in IE rather than windows photo gallery which is the
default program for JPEG images.
I would prefer it to open in photo gallery?
any advice would be greatly appreciated.
