We use 2007 and have set the default format for save to 97-2003 format.
And I can see it remembers this setting. But still some users experience that Word suggests docx when they try to save a document, even though the default setting is 97-2003 doc. It has also happend when one opened an old 2003 doc then when save as, it suggested docx. What can we do. -- LTJ |

SAVE AS
If you use Office Button SaveAs you have to select the format from the list of choices no matter what the default is. If you add SaveAs to the QAT or use F12 or Ctrl+S, the current format of the document should be offered unless the document is a new and unsaved document, in which case the default should be offered. SAVE Save should save new and previously unsaved documents in the preferred format but existing documents are saved in the same format as they were opened. If some user is saying that the document somehow changed the format during a save (as opposed to save as), I would be very suspicious that the user was telling fairy tales to cover pilot error. If the preference is not holding I would suspect a minor corruption of the Word data key in the registry - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\W ord\Data\Settings -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org LTJ wrote: We use 2007 and have set the default format for save to 97-2003 format. I see your point.
But most users experience that when using save as, it suggests .doc, the default setting, I've never had my Word suggesting .docx when using save as. But it's a good idea to use F12. Thanks. And thanks for the other tip about the Word data key -- LTJ "Graham Mayor" wrote: SAVE AS If you use Office Button SaveAs you have to select the format from the list of choices no matter what the default is.
