Link sub documents to a master document
I have a document that I'd like to set up to use as a Master Format sheet. I
need to link sub documents to the Master that will carry the identical format. If I need to make a change to the Master, I need all subdocument files to automatically update with the format change so that next time they are opened they display the revised Master. I'd like to do this to comply with a document control requirement that is part of the ISO 9000 standard. Also, there is some text that I need to have viewable and saved in the Master Format, but excluded from all subdocuments. Can anyone walk me through how to set this up? Thanks in advance for your help! |

Thanks in advance for your help! This should help you with your question: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/wo...870021033.aspx If you use Master Documents, be certain to BACKUP after EVERY session! Master Document is risky to use and I've never heard of it being fixes, only "improved", but with no details. http://word.mvps.org/fAQs/General/Wh...ocsCorrupt.htm Would "Outline" work as well for you? I ask because Master Document mode historically has a bad history and likes to eventually delete everything in every subdocument. I"ve seen claims it's been improved in the win 7 version, but NOT fixed. Outline will often serve for purposes such as yours. Or use a regular document and INCLUDES to pull in the subdocuments so you can get a full TOC, index and so on. That way you can keep them as separate documents reliably and avoid the problems of Master Document. Had you bothered to ID your Word or Ofice version, there are links that could tell you how to avoid the damages that can occue with Master Documents. Or, they're easy enough to find on your own too. It IS possible, but you need to keep certain things in mind. http://www.techwr-l.com/articles/general/masterdocs HTH, Twayne -- -- Life is the only real counselor; wisdom unfiltered through personal experience does not become a part of the moral tissue. |
