Default Word 2007 - With Vista 64

Somehow or someway, I deleted or turned off the auto insert date when typing
a new letter in MS Word. In 2007 and previous versions, as you began to type
the month the month name filled in followed by date and year. I have looked
all over the help menu can not find how to turn this feature back on or
re-install it if necessay.
Thank you
Dave

AutoComplete is a bit flakey in Word 2007, unfortunately--Vista 64 bit and
32 bit. I see it stop working all by itself... then suddenly work again
after I close a lot of programs and try again. And, sometimes it won't work
again until after I reboot.

If you start Word in Safe mode or using the /a switch, date AutoComplete
will usually work fine (it does here, I just tried). But starting normally,
it doesn't work. I tried renaming a bunch of registry tree entries as well
as normal.dotm. I also turned off all Word add-ins.

I also closed everything except for the program I'm using to post this
response

None of those worked.

But, I know that if I reboot, date AutoComplete will suddenly work again.

As far as I know, there is no solution yet.

Default Word 2007 - With Vista 64

I've been doing some experimentation this morning and have discovered
something useful. It appears that Word 2007's date autocomplete does NOT
work if the window is zoomed to a level that requires display of the
horizontal scroll bar beyond a certain point. I wonder if this is what's
causing it to not work for you.

I have two monitors. My usual zoom for Word--so I can read comforatably--is
160%. At that zoom, the horizontal scroll bar has decidedly kicked in.

With the Word window maximized, in Print Layout view, I tried the following.

I start at 100%, and date AutoComplete works fine. If I increase the zoom in
5% increments, the horizontal scroll bar appears at 170%. Date AutoComplete
still works. At 175% however, date AutoComplete stops working. If I back
down to 170%, it works again.

It works all the time in Draft view, regardless of zoom.

In Web Layout, it's the same problem as in Print Layout. The first zoom
nudge that makes the horizontal scrollbar appear doesn't kill date
AutoComplete. The second zoom nudge above that, however, does kill it.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Herb. I tried as you explained and in different modes. Size from 170
to 75%. Nothing. At least it isn't just me I guess. Another MS story. Thank
you for your time.

You might try deleting or renaming your Data key to see if the problem in
your case is a corrupted registry entry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\W ord

There is no way to turn off date AutoComplete through the interface, and
it's hard to imagine someone doing it using VBA by accident. However, on the
slim chance that it did get turned off somehow, you can try to turn it back
on as follows:

1. Press Alt+F11.

2. Press Ctrl+G.

3. Type or paste this into the Immediate window:

Application.DisplayAutoCompleteTips = True

then press Enter.

Now see if date AutoComplete works.

Note: this will not work if VBA wasn't installed.
