Default Pasted text does not retain original formatting

I've read the solutions to the problem of keeping the formatting (fonts,
paragraph spaces, etc) in the receiving document. One thing mentioned was
that I could check the box under Tools-Options-Edit that says Show Paste
Options Button. I have that checked, but the dropdown menu does not come up
when I use either ctrl-v or Edit-Paste. Why is this missing? Thank you!
