Password Protection missing in .docx
Please Help! I am using document protection in word 2007 and am having some
odd issues. When I create a template file (.dotx) I have no problems starting protection, and assigning a password. I then save and close the template file. When I create a new document based on the template (docx) and try to stop the protection, Word does NOT prompt me for a password. This means that anyone can stop the protection. I can open the template file and attempt to stop the protection and Word DOES prompt for a password. Also, if I save the template to the 2003 version (.dot) and open a new document from it, then the password prompt works correctly, so it has something to do with the .dotx or docx extension. I searched the web and this forum for any similar issues to no avail. Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Eric |

Password Protection missing in .docx
When you assign the password, are you clicking 'protect document' or 'OK'?
You should click OK and then you get a dialog to confirm the passwords. Once that has been achieved, save the template and close it. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org IT-Eric wrote: Please Help! Password Protection missing in .docx
This is a known issue. I can't remember all the details off the top of my
head and I have no idea whether, or when, a fix is likely. -- Enjoy, Tony "IT-Eric" wrote in message ... Please Help! I am using document protection in word 2007 and am having some odd issues. Password Protection missing in .docx
I click "start enforcing protection" and assign the password, then click OK
and save the template. I get prompted for the password when I reopen the template file, but not when I open the file as a .docx. At least microsoft is aware of the issue and I know I'm not crazy. Hopefully they send out a fix for it soon, this seems like a relatively large flaw. If anyone finds this fix, please post it here!
