Default Word 97 Exceeding threshhold

Programmer is using Word objects with a VPN interface and is getting
many prompts that decrease programs response time.
Programmer wants to know if there is a threshold for records that can be
merged with a word document.

As in mail merge? No there's no internal limit to the number of records.
There are practical limits, based on the machine configuration, though.
