Default I'm trying to hyperlink to a PDF file on my word document

I am making a Word document with information that can be found on a separate
PDF file. What I want to do is have the users click on the link and it will
open up the appropriate PDF file. I have taken the right steps for inserting
a hyperlink. However, when I come back to the file later (perhaps the next
day), the link no longer works and says that Word "Cannot open the specified
file". I have not changed the location of the PDF's so that should not be the
problem. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
