All of a sudden word is not on my computer. All my word documents appear as
"word pad" and I can not find Word on the start menu, but all my other
programs like "excel" are still there. What happened and what do I do?

It is unlikely that Word is really gone (it's hard to get rid of). Use
Windows Search to look for winword.exe. You'll probably have to tell Windows
to include hidden files and folders. When you find it, right-click and
choose Create Shortcut. Drag the shortcut to your desktop, Programs menu, or
QuickLaunch toolbar. Then reregister Word as suggested by garfield-n-odie.
