Default My previous form entries disappear after changes and protecting

When I try to make changes after unprotecting a form and reprotecting it, all
the previous entries disappear. What can I do to keep this from happening.
I am using Word 2000.

This behavior is by design. Are you using a template for your form so that
each person who fills it out creates a new document?

Yes, I'm creating forms with fill-in fields.

Hi,

What Suzanne was asking is are you using a template from which users create
new documents (rather than opening an existing document and reusing it).

The only way to keep the fields from resetting in versions of Word before
2002 (:XP) is with a macro.
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/...lfResetOff.htm

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." For more
about online forms, follow the links at

Chapman's series of articles. You may also want to look at

Hope this helps,

That's not what I asked. Are you saving your form as a template (.dot file)
so that each person creates a new .doc file based on it.

Use the following code in a macro to reprotect the form

ActiveDocument.Protect wdAllowOnlyFormFields, NoReset
