Default word document

when ever i try to open a word document i get the error "file cannot be
found" i've tried to save test documents and still get the same error

Operating system?

Are you opening this using the file menu in Word or by double-clicking on an
icon?

the system runing is XP
word 2003 and I'm double clicking and opening with the file open neither is
working.

Default word document

If you have recently used files enabled in Word, try opening your test file
from the file menu picking it from the recently used files list rather than
using the Open command. What happens?
