Default numbers coming thru with extra decimal places

When doing a mail merge (merging with an Excel document) the numbers to be
merged have one decimal place, i.e. 5.1, 6.9, etc. When they come thru they
appear with extra decimal places, i.e. 5.1 appears as 5.0999999999999996.

I have changed the formatting of the numbers but it doesn't seem to help.

Thanks
