Default Double underscores in tables appear bold when pdf'd?

Whenever we create a pdf of a document with double underscores in table cells
(many touching in the same row), the underscores appear to be bold where they
touch each other (edges of cells). If you zoom in or out in the pdf file,
they are not present. Tried using different versions of Acrobat with the same
results. Tried using pdfFactoryPro with same results.
