Default sort table

How can I sort a table (for use as mailing labels) that contains first and
last names only?

If the last names are in a separate column, sort on that column. If they're
in the same column, last name first, sort on that column. If they're in the
same column, first name first (and there are no middle names or initials),
you *may* be able to sort on Word 2 of that column. If not, see
