Default Change default "automatically resize to fit content"

Hi,

I would like by default the "automatically resize to fit content" option
checked off. I would like to have fixed cell width table.

I didn't find how to save this change for all new word document.

Does any of you have any idea?

regards,
Thierry PARET

Default Change default "automatically resize to fit content"

Generally speaking, you can change table formatting by altering the
applied table style. I'm not sure if "Automatically resize to fit
contents" can be specified in a table style (I'm currently not using
Word 2002/2003 which are the only versions with table styles), but you
can investigate this yourself: In a test document, you can create a
table style (via the Styles and Formatting pane) and see which
settings you can specify. You'll find that row height and column width
settings will be greyed out (Word won't allow you to change these);
see if the "Automatically resize to fit contents" option is available,
and you have your answer.

Default Change default "automatically resize to fit content"

FWIW, "Automatically resize" is NOT one of the Table Properties that can be
set for a table style, BUT it is disabled by default in the table styles I
looked at.

Thanks for your answer.

Do you think it is possible to change the default table styyle to remove
this option. I would like to create fixed table cell width by default.

Thierry

Default Change default "automatically resize to fit content"

Unfortunately, the Table Normal style cannot be modified, and it *is*
enabled in that style. But I suppose you could choose any other table style
(where it is not enabled) and customize that to mimic Table Normal. For
example, you could start with Table Grid and just remove the borders.

The problem with this seems to be that, even though that box is disabled and
unchecked in the Table Properties when you look at them in Modify Style, it
is enabled and checked when you apply the style. sigh MS ought at the very
least to make the display less deceptive.

There is no way to set the column size (including AutoFit) as part of ANY
table style. The only way is to use a macro or AutoText.
