Default how does one de-merge cells

I often recieve MSWord tables from other people which I need to re-format and
add columns etc. Often they have merged cells in the title cells which
interfere with the columns and I cannot 'de-merge' to get back to a regular
grid of cells with simple columns and rows.

Is there a simple way of de-merging cells in a table?

Hi Paul,

The only way to do this is by splitting the merged cells.

A workaround might be to split the table (Table|Split Table from the menu)
and work with the heading rows and body rows independently of each other.

Cheers

I would second macropod's suggestion. Although, you can resplit the merged
cells (and Word can even be pretty sharp at figuring out how many columns to
split them into), if the table columns are not uniform, you can waste a lot
of time trying to get the resplit cells to match. Splitting off the heading
row(s) temporarily is a much easier approach.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I have wasted a lot of time trying to get
resplit cells to align etc. Now I know there isn't an easy way I'll just
create new heading rows straight away.

Cheers,
Paul
