Default item count

In a folder, after "select all", how can I get an item count? My Windows 98
did this automatically. I'm using XP now

You should still see this information in the Status bar. If it isn't
turned on go to View/Status bar.

Additionally, it's best to ask questions related to Windows XP in a
Windows XP newsgroup. This one is dedicated to Word questions.
