Default Is there a way to save just one Word doc to print manually and leave default print at auto select?

Hi All,

I'm using Office 2007 at work and home but mostly at work I may have 2 or 3
specific documents that I save as a shell so to speak, and would save it
with a specific title after setting the print to 'manual'. But after I do
that, it seems that ALL my Word docs will print manual unless I change back
the print choice to 'auto select'.

Is there some way to just save these few documents as 'print manually' and
leave the default print option at 'auto select' so i don't have always
remember to go back to change 'manual' to 'auto' after I'm done with the
document that I want to print 'manually'?

The manual print jobs require our company stationary but the majority of my
Word docs just require plain paper so I'd use auto select from the paper
tray.

I hope this makes sense. Word does so many magnificent things, I just think
there MUST be a way to save the print option just for those few manual print
docs without having to change back the setting for everything else.

Thanks for any ideas anyone...........katy

Install the printer twice. Rename one of the Printer drivers as Manual.
Change the default settings for each driver as required. Add them both a
buttons on your QAT.

Thank you Terry, this could work. I sent your method to our IT staff but
haven't heard back from them. Not sure, maybe they don't want to bother
doing that.

I'm just curious tho why is it not possible to save the 'manual print'
setting when saving the document under it's own name? Office 2007 has so
many excellent improvements and shortcuts, I just assumed there would be a
way to save the print setting when saving the document under it's own name.
I'm curious why it's not possible.

Thanks Again !!!!

It has never been possible to save printer options with Word because of the
way Word works. Word interrogated the active printer driver to lay out the
document. Word won't even start without a locally installed printer driver.
So how Word looks when it is opened depends on the printer driver that is in
use on that computer. So printer most printer settings are not saved with a
document.

If you just want to assign the Manual Feed tray to your document, you can
certainly do that. In the Page Setup dialog, on the Paper tab, choose Manual
Feed as the tray for both First Page and Other Pages. This is not a matter
of saving a specific printer assignment with a document, but just the tray
selection.
