Default Section Breaks, Footers & Page Numbers (ASAP!!!)

I have a document "template" with a cover page, table of contents, summary
and the main body of the document. Right now the way the template is set up
is that we copy and paste new information onto an old document that is
formatted the way we want--"templated".

I would like to put a certain type of page # formatting on the table of
contents and summary page (i, ii, iii) and a different type of page #
formatting on the rest of the document (1, 2, 3), and have no page # on the
cover page.

I have tried to use section breaks in the document to do that. But even when
I create a section break in the document, and it labels the footer as
"Section 1" or "Section 2", it does not apply to the footer. In other words,
if I change the formatting in the footer for section 1, it ends up applying
to all the footers. Is there not a way to separate the formatting in the
footers other than the standard "Dif First Page", "Dif Odd Page" or "Dif Even
Page" ?

Is there another way to accomplish what I need?

On the Header and Footer Toolbar, there is a button to unlink the
Header/Footer from that in the previous Section. You need to use that.
