Default why is page layout for word mac longer

why are page sizes in macintosh versions of word different from pc versions.
i normally work with A4 sizes but when people open my document in pc, total
number of pages has increased, the last few lines at the bottom of the page
has moved to the top of the next page.

when i print the mac version, it won't fit in A4 size paper especially if i
have graphics at the header and footer part that extends to the page edge,
they don't get printed, but in pc they print fine.

i am working on mac but others need to access my files and they only have
pc. and most people i know have pc.

i tried searching for a solution to this problem on the web but could not
find any answers. i hope somebody can enlighten me or link me to a real
solution, if there is one.

thank you.

It might be just the difference between printer drivers:

There are dedicated newsgroups for MacWord, MacExcel, and other MS
programs for the Mac, for future reference:

In addition to Jay's reply, Fonts can make a difference as well - even those
with the same name don't necessarily have the exact same metrics in the PC
version as they do in the Mac version. If you're using fonts to which the
PC users don't have an exact match reflow problems will also be evident.

As suggested in the "reflow" article the best alternative is to send the
recipients a PDF file instead of a Word document. If they need to be able to
edit the file send both the document file *and* a PDF so they know how it's
intended to look & can more easily make adjustments to their copy.
