Temp files saving in word & alphabetical filing
Hi, just recently when saving word docs, it also seems to be saving a
'ghosted out' temp file copy as well. If i delete it, it deletes the original copy. Can anyone explain why this has started happening and how to stop it please. Also, in my folders, my files will not save in alphabetical/numerical order any more, they used to and when my colleagues open the same folders, they don't have the temp files and it's filed alphabetically. I really would appreciate any help with this. -- Many thanks, Lisa |

Temp files saving in word & alphabetical filing
There are two or three things going on here.
To get your files to display in alphabetical order, just click on "Name" at the top of the column. If you're displaying as thumbnails, tiles, or icons, switch to "Details" and click on "Name." This will re-alphabetize them, and then you can switch back to the view you like. It's not that your colleagues "don't have" the temp files. They just have their folder options set to not show hidden files. This is a switch that toggles from showing to hiding hidden files. Your option is to show the files, and their option is to hide them. The "ghosted out" temp file is created whenever you open a Word file. I just leave them alone, because they go away if you shut down normally. Sometimes, when you crash, an old temp file is left in your directory, and sometimes it will think that somebody is in the file and will keep you from opening it again. I've never experienced the behavior you report that deleting the temp file also deleting the main file, but I guess I've never tried it. (I'm a chicken. I don't like doing things when I don't know what it will do.) If you don't like seeing the temp files, go to your folder options and hide them. They'll "go away."
