Default page numbers are cut off in footer

I have a six month old HP 5940 Deskjet printer. On both saved and new
documents when I print the document it cuts off half of the page number
located in the right footer postion (only the top 1/2 of the number prints).
This is very, very annoying. HP tech support says it's not the printer's
fault, but neither the Canon or Lexmark printers I've owned ever did this.
Please help.

Thumbs up Answer: page numbers are cut off in footer

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your page numbers being cut off in the footer. Here are a few steps you can try to fix the issue:
  1. Check the margins: Make sure that the margins of your document are set correctly. If the margins are too narrow, it can cause the page numbers to be cut off. To check the margins, go to the Page Layout tab, click on Margins, and select Normal.
  2. Adjust the footer size: If the margins are set correctly, try adjusting the size of the footer. To do this, double-click on the footer to open the Footer Design tab. From there, you can adjust the height of the footer by dragging the bottom border of the footer up or down.
  3. Change the font size: If the page numbers are still being cut off, try reducing the font size of the page numbers. To do this, select the page number in the footer, go to the Home tab, and select a smaller font size.
  4. Use a different printer: If none of the above steps work, try printing the document on a different printer to see if the issue persists. If the page numbers print correctly on a different printer, it may be an issue with your HP printer.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue with your page numbers being cut off in the footer. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!

Inkjet printers have minimum margins for paper advancement. Make sure your
margins meet the minimum requirements, and make sure the footer margin and
bottom margin aren't conflicting, resulting in truncating the printout.

That's all beautifully technical and I appreciate it, but how exactly do I do
that stuff?

First check your page size in File | PageSetup | Paper. Is it A4 or US
Letter? Next go to File | Print and Properties and check the paper size is
the same. If these are the same then ...

What is your bottom margin? Printers usually need at least 25 mm or 1 inch
some need more. You may just need to give extra space to your footer. Go to
File | Page Setup | Layout and increase the Footer space a little.

Does this solve your problem?
