Please help! I cannot eliminate the periods that appear after every word I
type.

You have "show formatting marks" turned on. Not knowing what version of Word
you are using I can't give specific instructions on how to turn it off. If
however you see a symbol on your toolbar that looks like a backwards P,
click on it to turn the "show formatting marks" off.
