If you are truly talking about converting a space to a period, use find and
replace. If you are talking about being able to see your non-printing
characters, hit the ¶ button.

Not exactly right. Somewhere in Word 2003, there'a an option to display
(and print) all spaces between words with periods - actually not a period,
but a dot, situated vertically midway between the top and bottom of the text
characters.

It's a simple switch which toggles the spce character on and off and does so
without find/replace.

You want to display the non-printing characters...

Click on the ShowAll command button the pilcrow which looks like a reversed
double P on he standard toolbar or use Ctrl+Shift+8.

There was nothing wrong with JoAnn's answer; it is yours that is "not
exactly right." There is no "option to display (and print) all spaces
between words with periods" *anywhere* in Word. The dots are "nonprinting
characters," which do not print. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm.
