Default Section pages in footer blank when read-only

I've created a document using Word 2007, and saved it in the 97-2003 format
to a SharePoint 2007 document library.

I have page numbering in the footer of 2 sections in this format: p of sp
p = page number
sp = section pages

When opened in "Edit" mode, the page numbering in the footers of each
section is fine.

When opened in "Read-only" mode, the page number appears, but the section
pages is blank. (E.g. I see "1 of " instead of "1 of 23")

Is anyone else experiencing this and/or have a workaround (besides manually
inputting the number of pages in each section)?
