Default text alignement in cells - table - Word 2007

I am currently having a problem with trying to get the text to align central
to the cell (with equal space above and below the text) . . . no matter where
I ask the alignement to be placed the text it is always at the top of the
cell, I can get it centred in the box, left or right but it stays at the top
of the cell . . . I have the paragraph marks and other hidden formatting
symbols on view and no extra spaces have crept in so I am at a loss as to
know what is wrong.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Default text alignement in cells - table - Word 2007

Under the Table menu (or whatever the 2007 name for this is - Group?) is
there not an option to align vertically for the cells? It used to be a group
of nine icons covering all variants.
Also I would check the space after Paragraph attribute as the text may have
a very large spacing that is affecting the alignment.
Hope this helps

Default text alignment in cells - table - Word 2007

With the cursor in the table, the Table Tools (Design and Layout) ribbon
options are shown. Select the Layout ribbon and there's a section for
Alignment. You need one of the vertical Centre options depending whether you
want Left, Right or Centred line of text.

Thank you DeanH !
Of course... you hit upon the problem with the paragraph spacing !
I was getting too hung up on problems with Word 2007 rather than thinking
about likely causes (same as would happen in 2003) However to overcome the
problem before a solution was offered I just used the format painter from an
earlier table .
