Template Problem re Footer, Word 2000
I'd like to modify my normal.dot template so that any documents prepared from it will show, in the footer, the filename but not the path. I've tried various combinations of: Document: { FILENAME } Document:{ FILENAME } Document: {FILENAME} etc. and none of them work to show the filename I assign to a new document based on the normal.dot template. What shows up on the document is whatever I have shown above as one of the combinations. Insight appreciated. Thanks. -- ---------- CWLee Former slayer of dragons; practice now limited to sacred cows. Believing we should hire for quality, not quotas, and promote for performance, not preferences. |

How did you insert the field delimiters, { }? Note that you must add them by
pressing Ctrl+F9; otherwise the code won't work. If you did insert the field correctly and you are still seeing the field codes, press Alt+F9 to hide them. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "CWLee" wrote in message ... This is another case where the Help menus are not very helpful. Thanks again. |

Note, however, that adding anything to the header OR footer in Normal.dot is
not recommended. For one thing, it will mess up labels. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA http://word.mvps.org "CWLee" wrote in message ... Not a problem for me since I never print labels. If I leave the normal.dot template as it came from Microsoft, is there a way for me to change the default template that is used to open "document1" (etc.) when I click on new in Word? I use that a lot, and I'd like to avoid the problem, each time, of changing the fonts in the body, the header, and the footer. Thanks. |

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customizat...alTemplate.htm for
a rundown. You can start Word with a document based on another template (there are a couple of ways to do this), but the New (FileNewDefault) button will still open one based on Normal.dot. -- Suzanne S.
