Default Navigation Pane Breaks

I am using a template with a pre-made navigation pane menu. The way it was created causes black lines to appear at the bottom of every page and at the end of each section. When creating a new navigation menu from a blank document, this does not happen. I create subheadings as well which are each part of the main heading / section, but the black line is appearing between the heading and the new subheading, giving the appearance to an unfamiliar user of the document that it is a new / separate section all together.

Can anyone guide me on where to find the settings for this feature to turn off?
