Default Track Changes option is grayed out on Word 2000 documents. How ca.

I recently updated to Word 2003. When I pull up a Word 2000 document, the
Trach Changes option is grayed out. When I open the Reviewing toolbar, that
Accept Changes option is also grayed out. What do I need to do to get rid of
all those lines and deleted text?

Is the document protected for revisions?
