I am building some basic word templates, faxes, memos etc

Any ideas on how I can link some fields to external data. For example the
user logon information like Name, mobile phone No, Job title.

So as when someone uses the template for a fax it automatically signs the
document at the bottom with the information relevant to them.

I can get the user info off the word options tab without any probs but I
need to get it from the user info external to word.

Any ideas appreciated

Consider using AutoText for this and AutoText fields. For each user, have a
template that has their information in AutoText entries. This template is
stored in the Word Startup folder. Make this folder different for each user
(part of the user profile). See

AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc.

You would then use AutoText fields in your templates to display this
information. You might want to have an AutoNew macro in the templates that
updates these fields and then locks or unlinks them. That way a document
created on one person's computer will remain the same when opened on someone
else's compter and if your AutoText template is not on the new computer, you
won't get annoying error messages.
