I tried to create a background image in my word 2003 document and when I go
to formatbackgroundthe printed watermark command is not clickable - iow it
is dimmed out so I cannot click it.

Please advise.

I tried the web layout view and that didn't change. I use the format button
to get to background command.

My point is that the Printed Watermark command is NOT available if you are
in Web Layout view. If you had first inserted a background using Format |
Background, then you would be in Web Layout view, and so Printed Watermark
would be disabled.
