How to prevent normal.dot from attaching to a new document?
When opening a new document in word that uses a custom template, when I check
the attached template (Templates and Add-ins under Tools), it is always normal.dot rather than the template from which I created the new document. How can I force a new document to use my custom template and styles automatically, rather than having to use Templates & Add-Ins and Update Styles Automatically with each new document? |

How are you creating the document? How are you making it "use a custom
template"? If you go via File New and choose the Template, that does what you ask. -- Enjoy, Tony "VacavilleTechWriter" wrote in message ... If you use File New to create a new document from a template, that will be
the attached template. The only way I know of to interfere with this is a macro that attaches a different template. The same is true if you create the new document by double-clicking on the icon for the template in Explorer. Is it possible that your template is really a document? Perhaps even one that was renamed as a .dot file? Try opening the template and using SaveAs to save it as a template. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/ which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup.
