document,
Exactly WHAT things have you tried?

Restarted Word?
Restarted your computer?
Restarted your server(if you have one)?
Checked the file permissions on your file?
Made a copy of the file and tried opening that?

Is this file on a your computer, or are you accessing a file on a server, or
some other computer across a network?

If your computer is 'stand-alone' that is not on a network, does anyone else
use it? If so, do they log into the computer with a different name?

I just want to turn-off read only so it never comes on again I have trying
going into file save as the tools then general opions. I have tried going
into tools then opions it dose not work either
Even my power point presention is in read only I saved it to CD and it still
say read only when I try to save a power point onto CD it dose not let me all
it say is the file is proctected
Every time I make a new word doc or power point doc it always come-up as
read only!
I can make a copy of the file n give it a different name which seem to work
but only with word but it dose not work with power point
This is my computer at home and I with a internet talk talk broadband

I just want to turn off read only so that it never come up again

Why? One a file is on a disk, you can't just change that file. The file MUST
be on your hard drive for you to change it.

It is obvious that English is not Yoshioka's first language, so he/she may

problem still there. I am convinced there is no way to get rid of Read
Only.

And where are these files you are trying to open located? Is it just one
file, or does it happen with ALL files?

Are you always trying to save these files to CD?
If you are, then chances are they will be ReadOnly. CDs are designed to be
ReadOnly. Your best bet is to save the file to your hard disk, and only copy
it to a CD when it is finished, that is, it doesn't matter if it becomes
read-only.

One other thing, if you save a file to CD, then copy it to your hard disk,
it will usually still have the ReadOnly option set on the hard disk copy.

Finally, as far as I know, there is no way of 'turning off' read-only in
word, it is more to do with how and where you save the file.

Why? One a file is on a disk, you can't just change that file. The file
MUST
be on your hard drive for you to change it.

Hey,
You didn't mention earlier that you had a disability. If that's the case,
apologies for any offence!
However, that doesn't change the fact that many people WILL get annoyed at
you if you use all caps, unless they know why. I would suggest that is the
Shift key gives you problems, you are better typing in all lower case,
rather than all upper case, then you'll avoid any problems.
As an alternative, you could mention at the end of the message that you have
some a disability that makes typing more difficult for you, that way people
will understand, and (hopefully) not have a go at you. :-)

Once again, sorry if you took offence.

Hope you have sorted your problem with ReadOnly out...?

Definitely all lower case is preferable. Forgetting about it considered as
shouting, it is all about the brain and readability.

When we read, the brain recognises most words by the shape of the complete
word. The brain rarely needs to examine the individual letters because as a
child it learnt the shapes of words. If words are suddenly all in Caps, the
eye has great difficulty reading the word shape, so it slows down reading
and causes reading fatigue.

Take simple word like 'stop'. The brain easily recognises its short length
and the position of its ascender and decender. Once you write it as STOP,
there are no ascenders or decenders to assist the brain, so it has to
actually look at the letters before recognising the word.

So never use All Caps - even in Titles if it is a long title.

And where are these files you are trying to open located? Is it just one
file, or does it happen with ALL files?

These files are saved in the dreaded My Documents realm. I found some
information on a google search but it was not any help.
Here is how I created the files: Being a stamp collector I copied and
pasted some images to a blank email and sent it to myself. Then I went
to edit images and sent them to foldersz stored in My Documents. The
problem is that I cannot delete images that I no longer need and cannot
rename either. Why did I save the images the way I did, it was the only
way I found that I could do it.
