Default Word 2000 program shifts from the active to inactive window

In my Word 2000 program, the text that I am typing will suddenly stop showing
up on the document. The window at the top shifts from active to inactive at
the same time. This happens frequently during a single session.

Something is stealing the active window. I'd suggest looking at whatever
else you have running in your task bar. (This is just a guess.)
