Default how do i enter a fill in field to a preexisting document

I have read the other posts on similar questions but the responses which
route you to how to guides which have not answered the question or were to
complicated to understand for a user who only uses basic functions of word.
Is there a simple way to enter a fill in field? If so how do we do it?
