Hi,

I need to create a Word template based on our company brand. I have
been given exact measurements for where to put the address and logo
etc..

Is there a way to set the position of image/text to a particular
height. For example, using tabs i can put text '35.5mm from left'.
But I can not see how to put it '65.5mm from top'. Obviously i have
the ruler turned on but its a very detailed height.

Also how do i make the template non-editable.

I want to have the template to a fileshare and allow users to click on
it and create their new docs from it, but not to be able to edit
certain parts i have entered. For example, using the letter template
they can enter text in a certain area but not mess up the company
address.

Ah, I missed the "using tabs." If you're trying to place an image, I was
assuming you were wrapping it; the Layout | Advanced dialog in Format |
Picture has the setting I referred to. Any text or graphics that you don't
want typing to interfere with should be placed in the header. This alone
will solve most problems; only users determined to "mess up" the letterhead

Hi,

This setting doesnt seem to be in Borders.

I am looking for a setting where i can have an image or text an exact
distance from the top of the page For example, i want to put an address
at 62.5mm...obviously i can guess using the ruler but i need something
more exact like i can for the width using tabs.

I read the article and i understand about using the header etc..

But I can not see how I get these exact heights. For example, lets say
I'm doing a corporate fax cover sheet. On the page, there has to be
the text 'To' at 55mm from top, then the text 'From' at 65.5mm from
top, then the text 'Date' at 105mm from top.

These have to be the exact measurments...how can make sure thats the
exact height from top where I am putting the text. Or even see exactly
how far from the top I am from any point...if I could tell how far I am
from the top at any point I could keep testing til I got it right.

If these measurements have to be that exact, then Word may be the wrong tool
for the job. You can insert a text box and specify its location, but the
exact location of the text within that box will be harder to define. You can
place the *first* line of text below the top margin at a specific position
using Spacing Before, but this is pretty much a trial-and-error process
because the space is added to the height of the line, which includes some
leading: it does not specify the position of the baseline. Placement of
lines below the first will depend on the font size, line spacing, and
Spacing Before/After. The status bar tells you where the insertion point is
vertically (from the top of the page in Print Layout view; from the top
margin in Normal view), but it is accurate to only 0.1" in inches; I don't
know what precision it gives in metric terms.
