Default spell check

the spell check says that "spell check is complete" even though there are
errors. my child put the little silly looking guy with the big eyes on the
side and it has not worked ever since. what settings could she have messed
up?

Default spell check

I can't help but picture a silly looking guy with big eyes on the side. Is
that the left side of his face or the right side?

Seriously, it sounds as if you have an Assistant, something many of us have
dumped by now because they are annoying. That would not have messed up your
spell check. Are these real misspelled words or words that aren't spelled
correctly in that usage? Such as right vs write.

Default spell check

Probably your child's actions are just coincidental.

For Word to spell-check, whether by using the ToolsSpelling & Grammar
dialog, or by showing red underlines for the ³check spelling as you type²
function, you need to tell it which language you are using.

As a test, click in a word that isn¹t being spell-checked. Go to
ToolsLanguage and see what language the ³Mark Selected Text As² blue
selection bar is highlighting, and if the "do not check spelling or grammar"
box is checked. If the language doesn't match the one you think you are
using, Word won't catch errors. If the "do not check spelling or grammar"
box is checked, Word won't catch errors.

To fix, select the entire document, go to Tools | Language, and assign the
right language and make sure "do not check spelling or grammar" is NOT
checked.
